Tree-Athlon 2007
Following the fantastic Tree-Athlons in 2005 and 2006 Trees for Cities returns with two events taking the initiative to both London (Battersea Park) and Leeds (Temple Newsam) a double challenge for all tree lovers.
In the true spirit of the traditional triathlon, we are back with the three-part event: a 5km run, a chance to tell the world what your urban tree wish is, and a fashion swap.
This year's events are also an opportunity for everyone to take part in tree themed activities and entertainment with great prizes and give-aways throughout the day.
5km Run in London on 15th September
This popular run in beautiful Battersea Park is open to everyone over 14 and to all abilities. The selected route provides an ideal challenge and great day out to celebrate the end of the summer. Guest Celebrities will be on hand to take everyone through a warm-up as well as giving out prizes.
Tree Wish
Registered runners will be given the opportunity to declare their Tree wish which will be printed on their personalised running bib to share with the rest of the world.
Fashion Swap
All participants attending the event will be invited to reduce their carbon footprints by recycling garments and other articles they no longer need. So take a good look in your wardrobe to find this t-shirt you never wear - bring it on the day and swap it for something you will definitely wear (and if you can't find anything we will give it to a charity on your behalf!)
5km Run in Leeds on 25th September
Temple Newsam is one of the great historic estates in England. Set within over 1500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century, it is a magnificent Tudor-Jacobean mansion. Famous as the birthplace of Lord Darnley and home to the Ingram family for over 300 years, the mansion houses rich collections of works of art. The garden is renowned for its Rhododendron and Azalea walk and features the National Plant Collections of Delphinium, Phlox and Aster novi-belgii. Europe's largest working Rare Breeds Farm, with over 400 animals, is set within the original estate Home Farm.
