European Ultimate Championships 2007 What’s on – See the best teams in Europe battle it out for the title of European Champions at Ultimate. If you don’t know what Ultimate is then read on. Ultimate is a fast, exciting team sport. Players may not run while holding the disc, but instead must use a range of throws - quick short passes, long bombs or scything overheads - to pass to their team-mates. You can expect to see diving catches, high interceptions in crowds of players and flat-out sprints for the scoring endzones. A unique feature of ultimate is that even at the highest level there are no referees. Players call their own fouls and infringements, and everyone is expected to play fairly - this does away with the rule-bending and even cheating that other sports can suffer from. National teams from all over Europe will compete to be champions, but never at the expense of the ‘spirit of the game’, a philosophy that sets ultimate apart. Ultimate is a fast moving team sport unlike any other: there are no referees, the rules are simple, and it is played with a flying disc. The skill and athleticism of the players is unmatched, and Tournament Director Andy Kayley and his team are looking forward to welcoming well over 1500 athletes to the city.
Ultimate has been one of the fastest growing sports in this country for the past five years, and Great Britain is one of Europe’s heavyweights. |
