Using and Searching the majorsporty Interactive CommunityAdding your ‘linked’ gallery images and content to your members profile Connecting to your current sports club or team General Community Content within Sporty Stuff Rating and Commenting on Articles Quote the article on your site Find Sporty BuddiesSporty Buddies is your chance to include your profile within the majorsporty community. When registering you are asked to provide details for your profile including your sporting interests, current and previous sports clubs, your schools, colleges and universities. You can choose to tell others about your interests and location and we hope that people will use this to find old team mates and new sporty buddies to get involved in sporting activities and events. Please either complete these details upon initial registration or on a subsequent visit using the ‘Edit Profile’ section on the LHS ‘members’ menu. Under the ‘Edit Profile’ Section you can alter and change your profile information and also include an image for your profile. Searching Sporty BuddiesTo search simply type the name of the person into the quick search box on the top LHS of the page and view the returned list. To view all simply hit the Find Sporty Buddies button without entering anything in the search box. Once you have viewed the returned list of Sporty Buddies you can also refine the keyword search such as selecting ‘any words’, ‘all words’ or ‘exact phrase’ match. This may help you find existing or new Sporty Buddies more easily using these options. Adding your ‘linked’ gallery images and content to your members profileYou can add your own photo gallery to your profile. Select the ‘Gallery’ option within your profile. Then Select Gallery User Panel and click on the ‘New Picture’ option and upload images including the title and description. Please build up a gallery of your sporting images within your profile. You can also link and add forum entries, blogs and classified adverts for selling your kit. This will help tell people more about you and your sporting interests… Finding ClubsFind Sporty Clubs allows you to search clubs and organisations who have completed their profile as part of the majorsporty community. This is growing all the time. If you have not added your sports club, team or organisations then why not add it now. The club profile allows clubs to set up some key details including their location, club contacts, web address, key sports and activities and even a mini homepage. Once a club or organisation registers they can then set up their homepage as part of their profile. Please either complete the club profile details upon initial registration or when on a subsequent visit using the ‘Edit Profile’ section on the LHS ‘Club Members’ menu. Under the ‘Edit Profile’ Section you can alter and change the Club Profile information and also include club images and logo’s on the homepage. We want clubs and organisations from all sports within the majorsporty community so please spread the word. Searching Sports ClubsTo search simply type the name of the club or sporting organisation into the quick search box on the top LHS of the page and view the returned list. Once you have viewed the returned list of Sports Clubs you can also refine the keyword search such as selecting ‘any words’, ‘all words’ or ‘exact phrase’ match. This may help you find existing or new Sports Clubs more easily using these options. Adding your ‘linked’ gallery images, articles, blogs and content to your club or organisation profileYou can add your own photo gallery to your club profile. Select the ‘Gallery’ option within your club profile. Then Select Gallery User Panel and click on the ‘New Picture’ option and upload images including the title and description. Your clubs can also add articles, forum entries and blogs which will show in the club profile and help tell members more about the club and its history. A fun, accurate and up to date club profile will help tell people more about your club and it’s activities and also attract new members. Making ConnectionsThe majorsporty community allows members to connect with their sporty buddies and also with their current and former clubs. To make a connection simply select the Sporty Buddy or the Club using the search buttons on the top LH menu. You then select the connections option and ‘make a connection’. Once this is done a request will be sent to the other user which they can accept or decline. They will also then be on your connections list for emails from the system. Connecting to your current sports club or teamOne of the neat features included in the majorsporty community is the ability to connect members to the their current or previous sports club or team. Once you have made the connection then the member will show under the sports club within the club profile. This is a great way for clubs to find and link up with current and former team and club members. The club will manage the connections and accept or reject any connections made through their club moderator. Searching Community Contentmajorsportyunited contains a massive range of content about many different sports, it is an online sporting library. We have tried to organise it in sensible headings and sections as follows:
World Sports News – News feed from BBC content Within each section we have subcategories for different content topics. You can also search using the quick search function. Simply type in the search terms into the search box at the top LHS of the screen and then hit the ‘Find Content’ button. You will be returned the search results. If you hit search without typing in a search term then the system will return no results. You can also refine your search by typing in more detailed options after you click the initial ‘Find Content’ button. Within the more advanced search option you can narrow the content search more specifically to the type of content such as humour, events calendar, sporting heroes, videos and so on. You can also select the display order such as newest first, oldest first and alphabetical for example. Once you have viewed the returned list of Sporting Content you can also refine the keyword search such as selecting ‘any words’, ‘all words’ or ‘exact phrase’ match. This may help you find the content you are looking for more easily. General Community Content within Sporty StuffSporty Stuff contains a wide range of articles, stories and sporty content designed to promote sport and encourage people to get active. Sporty stuff includes a number of main sections and also a wide range of sub categories. Once you select an item of content you can then read through the article, story or interview. Within the Sporty Stuff section we have some fantastic content for you to check out:
Image GalleryThe image gallery contains a broad church of sports and activities Images have been collected by majorsporty at events when out and about and have also been supplied from sporting heroes and leading exponents of the sports. Equally importantly it also includes images sent in by clubs and members about their sports, events, challenges and of course for fun. We want you to keep adding and sending in as much as possible. To view images simply click on the image gallery section and choose the category of interest. This includes sporting heroes, sporting images, great endeavours, sporting events, funny pics, and majorsporty You then get some subcategories with further choices for example by sport. You can search the image gallery through the keyword search by typing the search term into the gallery search box and hit return. You can sort the images within the gallery into ‘Last Added’, ‘Most Viewed’, ‘Last Commented’ and ‘Top Rated’. When viewing at the image level you can also advance or retreat an image at a time through ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons. There is also an option to view the images as a slide show The Events Calendar The Events Calendar is designed to show a massive range of sporting events from club events in grass roots through to the elite and professional sports. We will be adding to this continually so please keep visiting this section of the site. We will keep you posted on events, ticket offers and reports in our sport-e-bulletin newsletters. Searching and Sorting the Events Calendar There are a number of ways that you can search the events calendar. You can search by a certain time period, a week, a month or even a year. Simply select the drop down box at the top of the screen and select the time period you wish to view. You can also view or select categories by sport. At the top of the calendar is another drop down box with sporting categories in alphabetical order. If the sport you want is not there yet then drop us an email at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it Once you select an event you will find that we provide details of the location, booking details and more about what’s on. Typically we provide contact details for event bookings including email and contact numbers. Where possible we also provide ticket offers. Please mention majorsporty when you compete in these events. ForumSelect the forum section from the LHS menu You will see the key sections within the forum for example rugby, football, Olympics and others. When you select a section you will find topics contained within that section. Some are aimed at being fun such as name your dream team or other more serious topics like supporting the Olympics or lobbying opinion on government spending. You can search the forum for topics either by clicking through the main sections and topics. You can also sort by latest post where you can select the time such as last 4 hours, last 24 hours or since last visit. You can choose to respond to the forum post either by reply or quote. ‘Reply’ simply allows the member or user to reply to a topic whereas ‘quote’ allows you to respond including a quote from the original forum post. To keep you aware of any responses to your posts there is an option to tick a box to view responses to any posts or replies that you make. Latest BlogsTo view the latest blogs and posts under this section then click on the link on the LHS menu. You will see a list of the latest blogs from the community members. Classified Adsmajorsporty has provided a free Classified Ads section to the majorsportyunited community to help you find or sell your sporting kit. At some point we might also add some other sections if the community wants us to. Although free we would like you to consider donating a small percentage to SportsAid on goods that are sold through the community, go on, give a little back. Within the ads section there are a number of categories set up by sport. Alternatively you can opt to view all ads. Simply click on the ‘All Ads’ link to see all the ads in this section. As per any normal classified ads section you will need to make contact, check the condition of goods and arrange payment and delivery. That is your responsibility. Please read the Classified Ads terms and conditions for a full explanation of the small print. To write an ad simply click on ‘Write Ad’ and you will be provided with some text boxes to fill in. You will need to provide a description, price, condition, Ad Title, your contact details and so on. You can then upload a couple of images. Select the browse option to view the images on your own directory and upload the images for the sporty goods. Please note that the file size is limited to a maximum of 200 kilobytes. Video VaultThe video vault contains a large selection of video clips covering sporting bloopers, funny adverts and other video material. If you are accessing the majorsporty site from a dial-up or do not have a broadband connection then videos will take a long time to buffer and may not play. To select Video Vault click on the LHS menu Once in the Video Vault you can search a large selection of funny sporting bloopers, dare devil stuff and serious sporting content, and of course the usual selection of adverts and TV clips. This section is structured with various main section headings, Sporting content, humour etc and then sub categories such as by sport. All our content has been streamed to run as fast as possible and we have a fast server and hosting service to ensure that videos run as quickly as possible. However please be aware that is you access this section from a dial up or slow broadband connection then the films will take some time to buffer and play. We want lots more material so please send in video and mpeg clips of your sporting events, tricks and others that you want to share with the majorsporty community. To search within this section then type the topic in the search box and hit return. You can also select other useful filter options such as most viewed, last added and top rated to see what is in the video vault. PrintingOur content comes from a wide range of sources including the majorsporty team, clubs and sporting organisations, national governing bodies of sport and of course you. Content can be viewed on screen or printed using the print friendly button at the top RHS of the content screen. PDF and Send to a FriendYou will also find a useful pdf feature where content is converted into a pdf format. We hope that schools, clubs and organisations will use the content for training, events and sharing passion and information in sport. There is also an ‘email to a friend’ button so please share our content and spread the word. Rating and Commenting on ArticlesWe want you to rate articles and content and also add your comments. To rate an article simply click on the rating score and select a 1-5 rating, 5 being exceptional or best or 1 being poor. To comment on an article then click on that function. You will need to be a member and logged in to utilise this function. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will find a text editor box to add your contents. Type in your comments, please keep them constructive and positive and of course no crude language. You will then need to type in the code for validation purposes. Your comments will then be recorded and you are a stronger part of the majorsporty community. You can also add articles and content to your favourites list so that you can keep coming back to them, again and again. Quote the article on your siteClick on this button and your will get the automated link and HTML text for you to add to your site. Please feel free to share the content and please of course quote majorsporty and spread the word. Submitting community contentYou will need to be a member and logged in to do this. There are a number of ways that you can submit content to the majorsporty community, either through the ‘submit content’ button located on the top RHS of the screen or through a submit content link located at the top of the ‘Sporty Stuff’ content pages. Once logged in then click on the submit content and you will be shown a text editor with a series of text boxes. The first text box is for the short description, which will be displayed in the listings page. The second text box is for the main body of the text. You will find that you need to complete some key registration fields for community content including:
All these fields are important as they are searchable by others to help them find the content that they want. For example I might be looking for kayaking in Bedford or Viking Kayak Club in Bedford. If these fields are populated then it will help people find your material. Once you have cut and pasted or typed the text into the text boxes then you have some choices on style of display (please note that for consistency that majorsporty may edit the style to a more standard layout). Where possible please use the paste from word symbol or paste from a notepad rather than directly from word so that the fonts are standardized. Uploading Images to contentImages can also be inserted into the content. This can be done in several ways either by selecting to upload the images with the browse and upload image boxes at the bottom of the text editor page or by inserting the image itself within the body of the text itself e.g. more like a simple desktop publishing suite. The image upload icon is displayed on the bottom row of editing controls and looks like two mountains. Once selected then you get to the image manager screen and an upload button displayed as globe. Select this and then browse and upload your images. You can centre them in the text editor to ‘wrap’ the text. To upload images using the image uploader at the bottom of the page then simply upload the images that you want using the browse function which will search the directory on your own computer. Image 1 will be the main image and will be created as the first image and also the thumbnail for the content listing pages. The other images on the image uploader will be displayed at the bottom of the article or content in block of images 2-7. Images should ideally be sized to less than ½ meg in size as a maximum and ideally not more than 500 x 500 (the maximum screen size for display). The image upload function will reduce the size automatically to fit the page. More about Submitting Content We want it allmajorsporty is building a massive interactive sporting community. Already it contains great stories, articles, interviews, events, videos and images. It is all about embracing life and supporting sport. We want it all… Once submitted, we will then approve and publish content. We do of course reserve the right to make style and format changes to content. Please ensure that you have read the rules on content for the majorsporty sporting community (click here for details). It’s really that easy so please get involved… Please note that we will not publish explicit material or material that does not fit the majorsporty community rules, terms and conditions. Please submit details of your club events or other activities within the Events section Submitting your own event. To submit an event you must be registered and logged in to the system Once you have logged in then go the events calendar and at the bottom of the events screen you will find a link to ‘submit your event’. Click on this and you will move to a new screen with a text editor. Simply paste your text for the event in the large text box on the screen. Also make sure that you include the key registration fields for an event such as:
Image GallerySubmit funny, adventure and sporty images on-line using the image gallery upload functions. You can either access this as a member or as a club and it will attribute the images to the club or member accordingly. You can access the image gallery upload functions from several locations on the site when logged in. You can either select the User Panel within the gallery, or the submit content function on the RHS menu or within your member profile section on the gallery tab. To submit images within the Gallery section then simply select the New Picture button. You will then need to fill in the title of the image, a description and also a category for the image. Please use majorsporty members or majorsporty clubs as the default upload category. Once submitted then they will then be stored in the system for approval by our moderators. We will try to get them approved as quickly as possible. Once approved they will then be shown against your members or club profile. If you have a large quantity of images then why not either file transfer them to us using yousendit.com or send us a disk to sporty HQ. (Click here for address). BlogsAdd you blogs and have your say on sports, leisure and adventure issues. Simply go to your members menu on the LH side when logged in and you will see a link for Add Blog. Click on this and then complete the text and title boxes within the text editor. You can also use other features within the text editor such as add a link, add images and change some aspects of style. Once you have written the text you also have an option about who can see it, only you, only registered members or the whole community. Get Blogging and have your say! Personal AdvertsAdvertise equipment for sale or swap with other members of the community free of charge. Terms and conditions apply. To add a classified Ad then simply click on the ‘Write Ad’ section and complete the boxes and upload up to two images for your sporting goods. You will need to provide a description, price, condition, Ad Title, your contact details and so on. You can then upload a couple of images.
